What data we collect

Clipento is designed with privacy at its core. The app works entirely on your device without requiring an account. However, if you choose to enable cloud sync to back up your bookmarks and data across devices, you'll create an optional account using your email address.

We may collect the following to keep the app running smoothly:

• Device type and operating system version
• Crash reports and performance data (via Google Crashlytics)
• Anonymous usage analytics (via PostHog) — you can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy
• Email address — only if you enable cloud sync to back up your data
• User account identifier (Firebase Auth UID) — only if you enable cloud sync, used to link your account across devices
• Video location metadata (latitude and longitude) — captured when your device records videos, stored locally with your video file

What data we do not collect

• We do not collect your name or personal identity
• We do not access your camera or microphone
• We do not access or upload your videos
• We do not sell your data to third parties
• We do not use your data for advertising or marketing
• Bookmarks, tags, collections and notes you create stay on your device by default — we never see them unless you enable cloud sync

Analytics & opt-out

We use PostHog (EU-hosted, GDPR-compliant) to collect anonymous usage analytics. This helps us understand which features are used most and how you interact with Clipento, so we can make it better. Analytics data is pseudonymous — it never includes your videos, bookmarks, tags, notes, or any personal content you create.

How analytics works

We generate a stable, anonymous device identifier (UUID) and store it on your device. This UUID is sent to PostHog with each analytics event to track your usage patterns across sessions. The UUID is never linked to your email, account, identity, or personal data. You can copy this identifier from Settings → Privacy → Copy Analytics ID. If you want to reset it and generate a new one for future analytics, use Settings → Privacy → Delete My Analytics Data.

What analytics data looks like

• Aggregated feature-use counts (e.g. "learning mode was started")
• Bucketed durations and counts (e.g. "session had 5–10 bookmarks")
• Device OS and app version
• Your subscription tier (free / pro)

What it never includes

• Video filenames, paths, or content
• Bookmark titles, descriptions, or annotations
• Tag, folder, or playlist names
• Any free-form text you type
• Your identity or contact details

Advertising

We do not use PostHog data for targeted advertising, advertising measurement, or to build advertising profiles. We use it solely to improve the product.

To opt out

Open the app, go to Settings → Privacy and turn off the Analytics toggle. When disabled, no data is sent and any locally queued events are immediately deleted. You can re-enable analytics at any time.

To request deletion of historical data

Go to Settings → Privacy → Copy Analytics ID, then email support@clipento.com with your ID and we will request deletion from PostHog. We will process your request within 30 days.

Cloud sync (optional)

By default, your bookmarks, tags, collections and app data remain only on your device. We never see them.

If you choose to enable cloud sync, your organisational data is securely stored using Google Firebase Firestore. At that point, bookmarks, tags, collections and app data are synced to our servers and can be accessed by Lithe Studios for account recovery, backup, and troubleshooting purposes. Your video files are never uploaded to the cloud — only metadata is synced.

Accounts & authentication

If you choose to enable cloud sync, we create a user account using your email address. We use Google Firebase Auth, which assigns a unique user ID to authenticate your account and securely link your bookmarks across devices. This ID is used only for account management, security, and device sync — it is never shared with third parties or used for advertising.

In-app purchases & subscriptions

Clipento offers optional Pro subscription upgrades processed through Apple App Store and Google Play. We do not handle or store your payment information. All payments are processed by Apple or Google directly, and we never see your payment card or account details.

Subscription management and cancellation is handled through your App Store or Google Play account settings.

Data retention

Local data: Data stored on your device remains there until you delete the app or manually clear your data through Settings.

Cloud sync data: If you use cloud sync, your data is retained in Firebase until you request deletion. Contact support@clipento.com to request deletion — we will process your request within 30 days.

Crash reports: Crash reports sent to Google Crashlytics are retained on Google's servers for up to 90 days before automatic deletion. You can delete your local crash logs by clearing app data from your device settings. To request expedited deletion, contact support@clipento.com and we will request it from Google.

Analytics data: PostHog retains pseudonymous analytics data according to their privacy policy.

Children's privacy

Clipento is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your rights (UK & GDPR)

If you are located in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@clipento.com.

1. Agreement

By downloading, installing, or using Clipento ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

2. What Clipento is

Clipento is a mobile application for bookmarking, annotating, and organising video content for learning purposes. It is designed for dancers, martial artists, and movement learners to mark key moments in video recordings and build a structured practice library.

The App operates primarily on your device. You can add videos from your device's photo library or by providing a remote URL. Videos from your photo library stay on your device — Clipento does not upload them. Remote URLs are accessed directly from the source and are not re-hosted by Clipento.

3. Your account

Clipento does not require an account for core functionality. If you choose to enable cloud sync (when available), you will create an account using your email address via Firebase Authentication. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.

4. Subscriptions and payments

Clipento offers an optional paid subscription (Pro) that unlocks additional features. Subscriptions are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store depending on your platform.

• Billing: Subscriptions are billed on a monthly or annual basis through your app store account.
• Renewal: Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
• Cancellation: You can cancel at any time through your device's app store settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google according to their respective policies.
• Free tier: Core bookmarking and video playback features remain available without a subscription.

For Apple users, subscriptions are also subject to Apple's Standard EULA.

5. Your content

You own your content. Clipento does not claim any ownership over your videos, bookmarks, annotations, tags, practice data, or any other content you create within the App.

• Local storage: Your content is stored on your device using an on-device database. Clipento does not upload your content to our servers unless you explicitly enable cloud sync.
• Remote videos: You may add videos via URL from external sources. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to access and bookmark that content. Clipento does not host, cache, or redistribute remote video files.
• Export packages: You may export your bookmarks and metadata as .clipento packages to share with other users. When you share a package, you are responsible for the content you distribute.
• Import packages: When importing content shared by others, bookmarks and metadata are added to your local library. Imported content is clearly labelled as imported.
• Cloud sync (when available): If enabled, your bookmark data (not your video files) is synced to secure cloud storage to allow access across your devices.

6. Sharing and collaboration

Clipento allows you to share bookmark data with other users through .clipento packages. When sharing:

• You may only share content you have the right to share.
• Shared packages contain bookmark metadata, tags, timing data, and small thumbnail images — not the original video files.
• Recipients can view, import, and use shared bookmarks within their own copy of Clipento.
• You should not use the sharing feature to distribute copyrighted material, offensive content, or content that violates any applicable laws.

7. Audio analysis

Clipento extracts audio fingerprints (energy envelopes) from your videos to enable bookmark time-offset detection when matching videos across devices. This analysis:

• Occurs entirely on your device.
• Produces a compact mathematical representation (not a recognisable audio recording).
• May be included in .clipento export packages to enable cross-device bookmark alignment.
• The extracted audio data is temporary and deleted after analysis.

8. Analytics and crash reporting

Clipento collects anonymous usage analytics (via PostHog) and crash reports (via Firebase Crashlytics) to improve the App. You can disable analytics at any time in Settings → Privacy. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App.
• Use the App for any illegal purpose.
• Attempt to access other users' data or interfere with the App's infrastructure.
• Distribute malicious content through .clipento packages.
• Use the App in a way that infringes the intellectual property rights of others.
• Use remote URL features to access content you do not have permission to view.

10. Intellectual property

The Clipento name, logo, design, and source code are the property of Lithe Studios Ltd. You may not copy, modify, or distribute the App or its components without permission.

Open-source libraries used by Clipento retain their respective licences.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

Clipento is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that:

• The App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
• Video bookmark timing will be perfectly accurate across all devices and formats.
• Cloud sync (when available) will preserve all data in all circumstances.

You are responsible for maintaining your own backups of important content.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Lithe Studios Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of the App.

Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for Clipento subscriptions in the twelve months preceding the claim, or £50, whichever is greater.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Termination

You may stop using Clipento at any time by deleting the App. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms.

On termination, your locally stored content remains on your device. Cloud-synced data (if enabled) may be deleted according to our data retention policy in the Privacy Policy.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
